Spring Cleaning Tips For Your Lingerie Drawer

With spring well and truly on its way, many of us will be thinking of giving the house a good spring clean. However, the arrival of spring shouldn’t just signify a house clean; it should also encourage you to revisit your lingerie drawer and clean out the old, whilst bringing in some spectacular new underwear.

Spring cleaning your lingerie drawer is good for the mind as you can get rid of all the discoloured, holey and just downright old underwear. So here’s some top spring cleaning tips to get you started:

Try everything on again

The majority of women have a lot of underwear that actually doesn’t fit them. Whether too big or too small, it seems women have a penchant for keeping hold of lingerie that’s the wrong size. Many women keep ill-fitting underwear without even considering wearing it at any point and if this is you, just accept the fact you’re not going to wear it and chuck it out.

If you are someone who wears the wrong size underwear, this is even worse. Not only are you probably experiencing some kind of pain on a daily basis, but what you are wearing probably doesn’t even look very good because it’s too tight or too loose.  Unless you feel totally comfortable and well-supported with every item in your underwear drawer, you need to get binning!
What’s the condition like?

Unfortunately even the best lingerie becomes discoloured at some point. So with this in mind, even if it’s your favourite bra or pair of knickers, you need to get rid of anything that’s looking off-colour. You also need to throw out anything that has a hole in it. Even if it is the smallest of holes…this hole will only grow and get worse through wearing and washing. There is just no point keeping anything that’s in a worsening condition.

The same is also true of any items where the elastic can be seen. Unfortunately many undergarments are not built to last anymore and through wearing and washing, the elastic can often snap and split and the ends become visible through the material. Just bite the bullet and get rid of any such items.

How often do you wear it?
This is ultimately one of the best ways to see if you need to throw an item of lingerie out. A lot of us are guilty of making purchases we don’t really need, are not able to afford or of buying something that doesn’t really fit very well. Unfortunately this often means we end up with items of underwear we’ve never worn and will never wear. In these cases, provided the underwear is still in tip top condition, you should remove them from your underwear drawer and donate them to charity. You may even consider giving (or selling) them to a friend or family member.

One of the best things about giving your lingerie drawer a good spring clean is that, once it’s done, you can go out and replace everything you’ve thrown away! However, be wary of making the same mistake detailed above, i.e. make sure everything fits you properly, you can afford to buy lingerie, and that you are definitely going to wear the items.
